Some inspirational quotable quotes ✨

  • 「自分に負けたくない。自分に勝っちたい」 (“I don't want to lose against myself. I want to win against myself.”)

  • “If you really want to do it, you must enjoy it. If you don’t enjoy it, you won’t improve nor will you have fun. So if you really want to go for it, I wish for you to enjoy it.”

  • “I’ve realized that what I’ve done and practiced until now, and my way of doing best no matter what the competition or circumstances, was not wrong. Continuing on at 100% without thinking about pacing myself was the right thing.”

  • “I don’t think I would need [a wish]. I don’t think I’d be happy if a wish came true just randomly, I think sports are fun because you work hard in order to gain something.”

  • 「昨日の自分に勝つ」 (“beat myself from yesterday”)

  • “I would like to make tomorrow a day where I can smile like this at the end of it.”

Shoma’s Skating Journey ✨

  • Began skating at age 5 when his parents took him to an ice skating rink.

  • When asked, he said he “wanted to do what Mao was doing” 🥺 and thus became a figure skater.

  • Began training under Machiko Yamada who coached Midori Ito, Mao Asada and Kanako Murakami.

3A ARC (lol)

  • Was one of his biggest obstacles.

  • He literally couldn’t land it!!! For five years!!!

  • He even landed a 4T before the 3A.

  • Despite that though, he was able to get by through other elements he was really good at like steps, spins, etc.

  • He finally landed a clean 3A at the 2014 Japanese Junior Nationals!!! After like five years of attempting it!!!

  • Since then, he’s gotten better at the jump and can do cool combos like his signature 3A1Eu3F and is even gutsy enough to attempt a 3A4T!!!

Senior Seasons

  • After an amazing final season as a junior, Shoma debuted as a senior skater in the 15-16 season

  • Despite a not so stellar senior debut at US Classic (lol) he had a relatively good senior debut season. He even qualified for GPF on his first senior grand prix and medaled there!!!

  • Still struggled a bit, especially at Worlds 2016 where he placed 7th.

  • Then he decided to try a 4F at TCC after feeling disappointed at Worlds and actually landed it on his first try!!! #LOCO

  • Since then, he’s medaled at Worlds, 4CC and GPF!!! He won silver at his first Olympics! He also won a number of National titles!

  • He has also landed 4T, 4S, 4Lo and 4F (not all in one program, but wow look at that variety!)

  • 2022 edit: he has all those^^ quads in his program lmao

19-20 Season aka EXPLORATION ARC (hehe)

  • Shoma announced that he would be leaving his long time coaches Machiko Yamada and Mihoko Higuchi in June 2019.

  • Did some “coach shopping” and decided that he would compete coachless until he found someone. (This is because he didn’t want to bother coaches by joining their team in the middle of the season)

  • It wasn’t easy. He struggled and finished 8th at IDF.

  • BUT!!! After IDF, he went to Switzerland to train with Stephane until his next GP (CoR)

  • Already improved big time by CoR! He placed 4th there, but having a coach by his side was a big help!

  • Continued training with Stephane before eventually joining his team!

  • Won his 4th straight National title despite his struggles from earlier in the season! #REDEMPTION

Some signature elements!

  • Very Shoma Uno™️

  • Goes in with SUCH great speed!!!

  • Look at how low he can go!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quad Flip

  • Shoma landed the first ever 4F at TCC 2016 and has a guiness record for it!

  • Takes off from the left back inside edge and lands on the right back outside edge

  • Improved big time since he landed it at the first time and was able to land it in combination for the first time at WTT 2019

3AEu3F

  • A super difficult triple jump combo Shoma likes to do towards the end of his free skate!

  • Has a base value of 15.18 (boosted because he performs it in the second half)

  • LOOK AT HIMMMMMM

Inside Eagle into a Triple Axel

  • Started doing these at 4CC 2017 but he has yet to bring it back ;;;

  • Starts skating clockwise on his inside eagle before shifting to a counterclockwise right forward outside edge before take off!!!

  • This one is from WTT 2017 which also features an outside eagle exit and cantilever ✨

  • ✨🔥MANIFESTING🔥✨

  • He hasn’t landed it in competition.......... yet 👀

  • Has been doing these in practice as early as 2017, but only attempted it in competition at WTT 2019 and WTT 2021

  • He has attempted a 2A4T at JNats 2017 though

  • Look at how gorgeous it can be ;;;

  • Hoping he lands it in competition one day!
